Today is Human Right’s Day
disability program

On this day in 1948, The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed Dec. 1o as Human Rights Day. The General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights at this time. This document has been used to promote and defend human rights all over the world ever since.

Here at the ILRC we know the importance of human rights for everyone. We believe that all individuals with disabilities deserve equal access in their everyday lives. Accessibility should be a human right for every person.

That’s why every other month we have a Disability Sensitivity Training that is free and open to the public. In the training we cover the rights of individuals with disabilities as covered in the Americans with Disabilities Act. We also discuss a variety of other disability related topics such as:

  • People First Language
  • Disability Etiquette
  • Strategies for Inclusion
  • Overcoming Stigmas: Fact and Fiction
  • Resources Available through Local Agencies
  • & Other Best Practices

If you are also interested in getting more involved with our agency this is the place for you. We discuss different volunteer opportunities as well. Attending this training will ultimately help you become a disability ambassador in your community.
