Happy Thursday, everyone!
Welcome back to Self-Advocacy Chats with Angie.
Last time, we talked about the Three Es. The foundation of strong self-advocacy:
Embrace your disability
Educate yourself and others
Empower yourself to access the support you need to reach your full potential
Today, let’s build on that.
Another key part of being an effective advocate is understanding the barriers your community faces. As the saying goes, knowledge is power. You can’t solve a problem if you don’t understand it and you can’t challenge a system if you don’t see where it falls short.
You don’t have to do it alone.
Creating a circle of like-minded people. Folks who share similar experiences can make all the difference. We learn so much from each other’s lived experiences. That’s exactly why peer mentoring is one of the five core services at the Center for Independent Living.
Because at the end of the day, we all need the same things:
community, support, acceptance—and a place to belong.
So here’s your nudge: come be part of the circle.
Follow us on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube to stay connected. We’ve got some powerful things coming up in the next few months, and trust me—you’ll want a front-row seat.
There’s power in numbers. And we need you in ours.
