In the counties The Independent Living Resource Center serves, the unemployment rate for people with disabilities is over twice that of their peers without disabilities. To fight this disparity, The ILRC empowers employment through job readiness, placement, and retention.
There has been forward movement in employment equality for people with disabilities but the fight is not yet won. Skills of job-seekers with disabilities are often overshadowed by stigmas andmisconceptions. Still, today, employers disqualify candidates based on their disability.
During the month of October, recognized as National Disability Employment Awareness Month, The ILRC asks business professionals to answer the following questions:
Is my labor force diversified? Does that diversification include people with disabilities?What inclusion strategies does my company have in place? How can we make them better?How accessible is my company? Does our consideration go further than building compliance?
Part of The ILRC’s community service is to connect with business professionals. Our nonprofit wants to see companies succeed in disability inclusion. We are here to provide businesses in our community with qualified and vetted candidates, job placement & retention services, tax-incentive guidance, inclusion strategy, disability sensitivity training, certified sign language interpreters, and accommodation support.
